URIF Backs Drone Tech Startup Sine Engineering in Inaugural Investment

The U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund (URIF) announced its first investment on March 25, 2026, approving an equity stake in Sine Engineering, a company specializing in communications and navigation technologies. The investment is intended to support Ukraine’s security, expand technology development, and encourage further private-sector funding. Ukrainian and U.S. officials said the fund will also consider projects in energy, infrastructure, dual-use manufacturing, and critical minerals during 2026.

Ukraine and NATO Open €10M Joint Defense Innovation Contest

Ukraine and NATO have launched the first competition under the UNITE - Brave NATO program to support the joint development of defense by Ukrainian and Allied companies. The initial stage focuses on building business partnerships for future battlefield technology projects. Priority areas include countering enemy drones, air defense, SIGINT and electromagnetic capabilities, autonomous guidance systems, and high-altitude flight platforms. The competition budget is €10 million, with winners expected to be announced in summer 2026.

Russia Launches Largest Daytime Drone Strike, 556 UAVs in Single Wave

Russia launched one of its largest drone attack waves against Ukraine on March 24, using 556 drones during the day, according to Ukraine’s Air Force. Air defenses said they destroyed 541 of them, while 15 reached their targets. The attacks affected several regions, including Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr, causing deaths, injuries, and damage to homes, infrastructure, and public buildings. Earlier the same day, Russia had also carried out a separate large-scale overnight attack.

AI Startups Drive Ukrainian Tech Funding to $498M in 2025

Ukrainian technology companies secured $498 million in investments and grants in 2025, up 8% from 2024, according to the AVenture Dealbook report. Late-stage funding accounted for 46% of the total, while early-stage investments reached $191 million, one of the highest levels on record for the country. Preply led the market after raising $150 million in a Series D round. AI-focused startups attracted 74.4% of total funding, significantly more than non-AI companies.

EU Solidarity Lanes Surpass €270B in Ukraine Trade Since 2022

Trade through the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes has exceeded €270 billion, according to the European Commission. Since May 2022, the routes have handled 209 million tons of Ukrainian exports, including 98 million tons of agricultural goods and 111 million tons of non-agricultural cargo such as ore and steel. In February 2026, they carried about 60% of Ukraine’s non-agricultural exports and 60% of total imports, supporting trade integration with the EU and future reconstruction.

Zelenskyy Signs Law Ratifying Ukraine-UAE Free Trade Agreement

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the law ratifying the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates. The agreement, signed on February 17, 2025, aims to liberalize trade and support investment. It provides for the phased removal of import duties on a wide range of agricultural and industrial goods. Some tariff cuts will take effect immediately, while others will be introduced after transition periods of three and five years.

Only 38% of Ukraine's $15B 2026 Recovery Needs Secured, Kuleba Says

Ukraine’s priority recovery needs for 2026 are estimated at $15 billion, but only 38% of that amount has been covered so far, according to Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksii Kuleba. Total recovery needs have now reached $588 billion. The largest funding gaps are in energy, transport, and housing. Officials also highlighted resilience plans worth more than €5.4 billion, focused on protecting critical infrastructure, expanding distributed power generation, and preparing for the next heating season.

Ukraine Severs 116 Treaties with Russia, Belarus, and the CIS

Ukraine is withdrawing from 116 international treaties concluded within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), following an initiative by the Foreign Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers. According to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the move is intended to remove remaining legal ties with Russia and Belarus. The step includes terminating 25 agreements, denouncing three, and withdrawing from 88 others. Ukraine had already begun this process, including issuing presidential decrees and submitting draft laws to parliament.
