Ukraine Begins Work on a Dedicated AI Law to Match EU Rules
Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation has announced the start of work on a dedicated artificial intelligence law to align national rules in accordance with the EU AI Act. A working group will prepare the draft in 2026, following earlier steps, including an AI roadmap, a white paper, a regulatory sandbox, terminology standards, and industry self-regulation. The ministry says the law should support safe AI use, protect public interests and help Ukrainian developers enter international markets.

Half a Year, 23 New Markets: Ukraine's Agri-Exports Outpace Last Year
Ukraine has gained access to 23 new agricultural export markets in the first half of 2026, exceeding the 22 opened during the whole of 2025. The new arrangements cover countries including Albania, Algeria, Vietnam, Egypt, South Korea, China, and EU member states. Export categories include meat, dairy, egg products, pet food, fish products, flour, live animals, and planting material. Officials said most approvals concerned animal-origin and processed products.

BRAVE FRANCE — A €20M Grant Push for Missiles, Drones and Air Defense
Ukraine’s Brave1 and France’s Defense Innovation Agency have launched BRAVE FRANCE, a joint grant program with a €20 million budget, shared equally between the two countries. Ukrainian and French companies will develop defense technologies, including missile systems, unmanned platforms, and air defense solutions. Individual grants may reach €1 million, with the first calls planned for September 2026. Testing will take place through Ukraine’s Test in Ukraine platform.

Ukraine Clears IMF First Review, Next $690M Tranche in Sight
Ukraine and the IMF have reached a staff-level agreement on the first review of an $8.1 billion Extended Fund Facility program. If approved by the IMF Executive Board, Ukraine will receive about $690 million, bringing total disbursements under the program to $2.2 billion. The IMF said Ukraine met all quantitative targets by the end of March, while some structural benchmarks were delayed. Updated reform deadlines include tax measures and the gradual liberalization of the energy market.

Diehl Eyes Flamingo Missile Production as Skyeton Lands German Drone Deals
German defense company Diehl Defence plans to discuss localizing production of Ukraine’s long-range Flamingo cruise missile at its facilities in Germany with developer Fire Point. The missile is reported to have a range of more than 3,000 km, while Diehl may offer infrared guidance and engineering upgrades. Separately, Ukrainian drone maker Skyeton has agreed to cooperate with German firms INTEC and ONBERG on Raybird drone development and production.

Fire at Moscow Oil Refinery After June 18 Drone Attack
Reports from Russian officials and open-source channels said Moscow and the surrounding region faced a large drone attack on 18 June, with several drones reaching the Moscow oil refinery in Kapotnya. Moscow’s mayor said air defenses intercepted 180 drones, while local reports showed fire and smoke at the site. The refinery, a major fuel supplier for Moscow and its airports, had reportedly halted operations after earlier attacks this week.

Ukrainian Cargofy Lands $11M to Scale AI Agents for Logistic
Ukrainian logtech company Cargofy has raised $11 million in a Series A round, including $6 million in primary investment and $5 million in secondary deals. The round was led by u.ventures, Toloka and MovensCapital, with Intercom co-founder Des Traynor among new investors. Cargofy develops AI agents for freight operations and plans to expand internationally, grow its team, and enhance automation tools for logistics clients.

Pistorius Pledges $400M More to Ukraine, With PAC-3 Missiles in the Mix
Germany will provide an additional $400 million in military support for Ukraine, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said ahead of a NATO defense ministers’ meeting in Brussels. Half of the funding will go through the PURL mechanism to purchase US weapons and ammunition, including air defense supplies. Another $200 million will support the Jumpstart program for PAC-3 guided missiles for the Patriot systems.
