Ukraine, WIPO Agree on IP Cooperation
Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy and the World Intellectual Property Organization signed a two-year memorandum to strengthen cooperation in intellectual property. The agreement focuses on developing Ukraine’s IP system, supporting digital infrastructure, assisting SMEs and research institutions, and improving copyright protection. It also covers anti-counterfeiting measures, integration of artificial intelligence, and alignment with international IP standards.
Ukraine and EU Begin Energy Law Screening
Ukraine and the EU launched the official screening of Ukrainian energy legislation for compliance with EU law in Brussels. The process covers areas such as energy efficiency, gas market, supply security, renewables, and trans-European energy networks. The screening is a key step in Ukraine’s EU accession talks and will shape further adoption of EU energy rules.
European Court Rules Against Russia in Major Ukraine, Netherlands Case
The European Court of Human Rights ruled in favor of Ukraine and the Netherlands in the most significant interstate case against Russia. The court found Russia responsible for military presence in Ukraine since 2014, widespread human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, torture, deportation of children, suppression of freedoms, and the downing of MH17.
Ukraine and Poland Sign Anti-Corruption Cooperation Memorandum
Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NAZK) and Poland’s Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) signed a memorandum in Warsaw to deepen cooperation in preventing and combating corruption. The agreement includes information sharing, joint training, expert exchanges, and the development of tools to improve anti-corruption measures.
Ukraine Launches Syndicate Investments in Defense Startups
Ukraine’s Defence Builder accelerator has introduced a syndicate investment model, allowing individuals, including foreigners, to invest in defense startups with a minimum of $1,000. This approach pools resources from multiple investors to fund projects such as drones, air defense systems, cybersecurity, automation, and demining technologies. The platform is currently in closed beta, with a public launch expected soon.
Darkstar Raises €15M for Defense Startup Investments
Estonia-based venture fund Darkstar has raised €15 million from European entrepreneurs, family offices, and Estonia’s state fund SmartCap to invest in early-stage defense startups supporting Ukraine’s armed forces. The fund targets a total of €25 million within a year and focuses on startups developing drone components, sensors, communications, electronic warfare, cybersecurity, and surveillance solutions. Key criteria include proven or potential battlefield use.
